As modern evolutionary biologists are pointing out, not all evolution is forward. Large beaked finches in the Galapagos which have evolved to deal with large, hard seeds during a time of drought will devolve back to medium sized beaks in times of rain-driven surplus of smaller, easier to open, seeds. [Not individual finches of course, but their offspring, and in surprisingly short periods of time.]
Something like that is happening in the US where belief trumps thought; people are returning to the uh-huh, ok stage of life. The group leader says “God made every little mite just the way it is and nothing changes, ever;” the followers say “uh-huh, ok.”
As Bob Somerby points out, this fact about the American public, second from the bottom after Turks, presents certain political problems.
