A dear friend sent this on, and I send it on again. Very nice stuff, and delivered with just the right tone and attitude, reflecting all that he is saying….
“This Profound Graduation Speech Will Change Your Outlook on Life
If I was judging Tim Minchin based on his appearance, I’d say he looks like someone who sells nitrous balloons in concert parking lots. The Aussie fits the profile of the nattiest of natty wooks: Long, dready hair, kinda geeky, and a thick beard. But Minchin is actually a perfectly fine functioning member of society and an incredibly eloquent songwriter, actor, comedian, and writer. That’s why we don’t judge people on cosmetics. Speaking as a guest speech at his alma mater, The University of Western Australia, Minchin delivered a profound — and hilarious — address that everyone should listen to because it cuts into the McMansions of cookie-cutter bullshit that most graduation addresses are constructed out of. Millenials especially. If this doesn’t change your outlook on life and being the best you can be, you’re a hopeless case. Go back to your cave.”
Huffington Post laid out his main talking points in convenient listicle format, because that’s the only way to get a millenial’s attention.
1. You don’t have to have a dream.
2. Don’t seek happiness.
3. Remember, it’s all luck.
4. Exercise.
5. Be hard on your opinions.
6. Be a teacher.
7. Define yourself by what you love.
8. Respect people with less power than you.
9. Don’t rush.
